Area: Topographic Amplification of Ground Motions and Design Recommendations
The surface topography of the terrain has a significant impact on the ground motions. The characteristics of the seismic waves propagating through the topographic irregularity change due to multiple interactions of the incident and reflected wave fields. As a result, a notable amplification in the ground motions is observed over the terrains having topographic irregularities. This thesis provides a detailed design recommendation along with a comprehensive theoretical background for the prediction of topographic amplification.
