Area: Tall structures in seismically active regions
Design of tall structures is often governed by the wind loading. Most standards deal with only the static wind load and, only for few standard shapes with equivalent dynamic load. The wind forces are highly dynamic in nature due to the turbulent characteristics of the wind flow. Hence to assess the wind effects, fluid dynamic analysis is required. We aim to understand the possible force distribution on tall structures and its sensitivity on the architectural shape. We also investigate the possible impacts on the seismic performance when the design is optimized based on wind loading.
